I experienced a sudden attack of an obstructed kidney stone accompanied by, what is considered expected, a urine infection. Unfortunately, this infection spread systemically and found a home in the bottom of my spine. What followed were hospital stays, wearing a custom fitted spinal brace, stay at a rehabilitation center and a couple months of heavy duty antibiotics and pain meds. To say the least, the excruciating pain and then heavy duty pain killers helped until I was able to heal. I attribute my recovery to my wonderful support group of a great team of physicians; friends and family. Though I was leading a very healthy lifestyle, I am now following a low oxalate diet, in addition to hydrating well, and hopefully prevent kidney stones in the future.
